CHAIR MASSAGE is by far, the most convenient method of massage therapy. Chair massage lasts about 30 minutes and is done while fully clothed. A chair massage promotes better circulation and muscle stimulation. This form of massage reduces tension in the back, neck and shoulders; thus providing deep relaxation. A swift chair massage revitalizes your anatomy and encourages overall well-being.

Deep Tissue Massage is a massage technique that focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue. It aims to release the chronic patterns of tension in the body through slow strokes and deep finger pressure on the contracted areas, either following or going across the fiber's of the muscles, tendons and fascia.
Deep tissue massage is used to release chronic muscle tension through slower strokes and more direct deep pressure or friction applied across the grain of the muscles not with the grain. Deep tissue massage helps to break up and eliminate scar tissue. Deep tissue massage usually focuses on more specific areas and may cause some soreness during or right after the massage. However, if the massage is done correctly you should feel better than ever within a day or two.
Trigger Point massage therapy applies concentrated pressure to areas of chronic or severe pain in the muscles, called “trigger points.”
With the proper pressure, duration and location, immediate release of tension and improved muscular functioning can occur. Trigger point massage has been known to diminish migraine pain, mock sciatica, mock carpal tunnel syndrome and other pain syndromes, and other symptoms that may have been misdiagnosed.
Trigger Points weaken muscles, reduce range of motion, and drain endurance. While you may not have heard of them, you’ve experienced them. Everyone who’s had muscle pain and stiffness has experienced Trigger Points. They are the tender spots or knots that grow in your muscles. Medical doctors believe Trigger Points form naturally as a result of muscle abuse. Over and under use of muscles causes the ultra thin fibers that make-up muscles to tangle into the tiny knots that are Trigger Points. The knots cause muscles to shorten and tense. Trigger Points are of two types: latent and active. Both cause all the muscle dysfunctions described above but only active Trigger Points spontaneously emit pain. Active triggers are relatively rare but everyone suffers latent ones. While Trigger Points appear naturally, they also disappear naturally when your muscles are stretched.
Many women suffer from aches and pains, stiffness and tension during pregnancy. Gentle massage can often help to relieve problems such as backache, sleeplessness, edema, headaches, and other minor complaints.
Back pain is extremely common in pregnancy (as well as during the period of breastfeeding, or having to carry small children). It can be relieved by massage to the whole of the back area, the neck, legs, and feet, and by gentle stroking of the abdomen. Poor circulation also affects many pregnant women, and can be helped by a general body massage, which stimulates and improves the blood flow throughout the body. Leg massage, stroking from the ankles up toward the thighs, can help relax the body, relieve pain and reduce swelling in the legs(but avoid working directly over varicose veins). For women who develop problems sleeping, the soothing effects of massage can help relax and calm. Some pregnant women claim that lightly massaging the abdomen can even help to send the foetus to sleep. As well as relaxing and soothing away physical symptoms, massage can be a wonderful way of including your partner and children in the course of your pregnancy.
Pregnant women should check with their physician before having a massage. In cases where the physician recommends that the lower back and abdomen area should be avoided, massage the face, hands, arms, and feet to assist in relaxation.
Why do so many people need foot massages ?
In a world where all we does is stand, run, walk and lift – our feet support us the entire way. While being stifled in shoes and socks all day, they have restricted circulation and air contact. Be kind to someone close to you and give them the gift of a foot rub. Although machines that massage feet are becoming popular, there is no replacement for what the genuine human touch can do. So whether you massaging your own foot or someone else’s, take a few moments to explore the site and try some foot massage yourself.
On this site, I will try to cover the difference between actual foot massaging and reflexology. We cover the heel, toes and most areas below the ankle on the foot. You will find information on foot massage technique , diagrams on how the feet are structured, different types of foot massages and other related topics.
So, grab a stool or foot rest, get ready to learn some techniques and find someone's feet to massage (even if they are your own!)

Sports Massage is a special form of massage and is typically used before, during, and after athletic events. The purpose of the massage is to prepare the athlete for peak performance, to drain away fatigue, to relieve swelling, to reduce muscle tension, to promote flexibility and to prevent injuries.
Purpose of Sports Massage?
The main purpose of sports massage therapy is to help alleviate the stress and tension which builds up in the body’s soft tissues during physical activity. Where minor injuries and lesions occur, due to overexertion and/or overuse, massage can break them down quickly and effectively. The massage will help prepare the athlete for peak performance, to drain away fatigue, to relieve swelling, to reduce muscle tension, to promote flexibility and to prevent injuries. Sports massage can help prevent those niggling injuries that so often get in the way of performance and achievement, whether a person is an athlete or a once a week jogger.
Types of Techniques?
Depending on the needs of the athlete, a variety of techniques are used. The technique often involves a blend of traditional Swedish Massage and Shiatsu specifically designed to treat professional athletes.
Each type of sport has different demands on the players. Each sport uses muscle groups in a different way. Sports massage is designed to address those specific concerns and may differ according to the sport the athlete plays. Sports massage can be aimed to help heal strained muscles and allow healthy ones to reach peak performance and maintain it while minimizing the risk of injury.
Benefits of Sports Massage?
Sports massage has many benefits. In addition to FEELING GOOD, sports massage reduces the heart rate and blood pressure, increases blood circulation and lymph flow, reduces muscle tension, improves flexibility, and relieves pain. Each sport and athletic event uses muscle groups in a different way.
Sports Massage can also include pre-event, post-event and maintenance techniques that promote greater athletic endurance and performance, lessen chances of injury and reduce recovery time.
Shiatsu massage is also an extremely effective form of massage but with a somewhat metaphysical rationale to support the technique.
Shiatsu is a Japanese word that means “finger pressure.” The goal of Shiatsu is to restore the balance of energy in the body. Proponents of Shiatsu and acupuncture believe that disease and physical infirmities are caused by imbalances or blockages in the flow of energy through the body. This energy is called “ki” which flows through the body along meridians or energy channels. Practitioners strive for a balance between Yin (negative energy) and Yang (positive energy) and attempt to determine where there may be a build up of energy or an energy deficiency. Either will cause problems.
Shiatsu does not use the rubbing and kneading technique of Swedish massage but applies pressure using almost any part of the therapist’s body including arms, legs, fingers, hands, feet, elbows, toes, etc. The therapist locates a particular point along one of the body’s meridians and applies pressure to that area, attempting to restore balance to the flow of energy. The pressure can be applied gently with the fingers or may be applied forcefully with the point of the elbow depending on the location of the point and the severity of the blockage. The therapist may also incorporate stretching, holding or rotating various parts of the body.
A massage is meant to be a relaxing experience – a time to meditate and alleviate tension, pressure and toxins building up in our bodies – not a stressful experience. Knowing how to handle or avoid some common uncomfortable situations can help you attract massage clients and keep them coming back.
Many times clients simply don’t know if they should or shouldn’t tip a massage therapist for their services. It is up to you to delicately inform your clients, at the appropriate time, about your tipping policies. It may be uncomfortable, but it’s a portion of your salary and deserves some attention. Here are some guidelines:
Spa or Hotel: 20% to 30% tip is standard if your client was pleased with the services. A discrete sign at the reception desk is acceptable.
The number of benefits associated with massage therapy is enormous.
Humans need touch. It's as simple as that. Without touch, we get depressed, ill, and stressed. A newborn who is not touched will not thrive. A well done massage takes our need for touch to a new therapeutic level. It can not only relieve tension and stress, it can help rehabilitate a muscle injury. It can also help prevent injury. Massage helps keep muscles loose and well-nourished, so they respond better when stressed. Massage improves circulation, which can aid healing and cell growth. Regular massages can also help you overcome sleep problems; enabling you to get more rest and be more alert while you are awake. Ned D'Agostino - EzineArticles.com
